Sundar Iyengar was elected to the SPEC board of directors in February 2025 and currently serves as chair of the Cloud Committee and vice-chair of the Machine Learning Committee. He also actively participates in the SPEC CPU Committee, represents Intel on the Open Systems Steering Committee, and oversees Intel’s contributions to the development of the CPU 8 benchmark.
Prior SPEC Roles
Sundar has been actively involved with SPEC since 2019, beginning as a member of the CPU Committee and later as a founding member of the Machine Learning Committee. He played a pivotal role in successfully transferring a parallel industry benchmarking effort focused on developing a Cloud benchmark to SPEC, which is now being advanced by the SPEC Cloud Committee.
Industry Role
Sundar began his career at Intel in 1987 as a staff engineer, rising steadily to his current role as a Senior Principal Engineer. His wealth of experience in product development includes CPU architecture, RTL design, performance simulations, and post-silicon performance validation. A significant portion of his career has been focused on various aspects of CPU and platform performance, and he is well-versed in benchmarking, contributing extensively to Intel’s efforts across workstations and servers. He has been awarded 10 patents, and his numerous accolades include two Intel Achievement Awards, one of Intel’s most prestigious honors.
