Releases New Benchmarks for
Unigraphics V17 and SolidEdge V10 Applications |

WARRENTON,
Va., October 24, 2001 - SPEC/GPC's Application
Performance Characterization (SPECapc) project group has released new benchmarks
for systems running Unigraphics V17 and SolidEdge V10 software. Both benchmarks
are available for free downloading on
this web site. Initial SPECapc for Unigraphics V17 testing results have
been posted on the web site; the first results for SPECapc for SolidEdge
V10 will be posted on November 7.
SPECapc for Unigraphics V17 was developed by a user with 20 years of experience with the application. It reflects new functionality and features in the latest version of the popular CAD/CAM software. New models include an engine assembly containing more than 400,000 vertices, and an intake manifold assembly containing more than 200,000 vertices. Both models are considerably larger than those used in SPECapc for Unigraphics V15. The benchmark is currently available for Windows, with a UNIX version expected in the near future. SPECapc for SolidEdge V10 is an updated benchmark based on new features in the software's latest version. It uses the same models - a well-head assembly with 1,320 parts and 1.3-million polygons, and a 64-part hydraulic jack assembly with 66,000 polygons - as its predecessor, SPECapc for SolidEdge V9. SPECapc continues to seek additional benchmarks for leading software programs in three key application areas: CAD/CAM/CAE, visualization and digital content creation (DCC). SPECapc benchmarks and updated performance results are offered for free on the GPC News web site. "We're grateful to EDS PLM Solutions for what it has done to bring these benchmarks to CAD/CAM users around the world," says George Chaltas of Intel, SPECapc's chair. "This is the ideal way to develop a benchmark, with the ISV contributing the application expertise and SPECapc implementing proven methodologies that standardize measurement criteria, review processes, and reporting formats." SPECapc is a project
group of the Graphics Performance Characterization (GPC) Group, which
in turn is part of the Standard Performance Evaluation Corp. (SPEC). SPEC
is a non-profit corporation formed to establish, maintain and endorse
a standardized set of relevant benchmarks that can be applied to the newest
generation of high-performance computers. SPEC's membership includes computer
hardware and software vendors, and leading universities and research facilities
worldwide. ### Press contacts:
