Other Notes

The system under test was a 6-node SpinServer 3300 scalable cluster with twelve 15-disk SpinStor RAID Chassis (2 per node).
Each FC port on HBA0 of every SpinServer 3300 was connected to a SpinStor RAID Chassis.
Each SpinStor RAID Chassis utilized a RAID controller with 64 MB of RAM configured as a write-through cache.
The single filesystem, F1, was comprised of 6 nodes and 36 RAID-5 sets.
Each RAID set had a strip size of 32 kB.
Each node in the cluster had access to the client network (N1) for communication with all Load Generators.
Each node in the cluster had access to the cluster network (N2) for communication with all other nodes.
Each client process accessed the cluster through a single node and had full access to all disks in the system.
Each of the 6 nodes served as the access point for 1/6 of the client processes.
Of the processes which enter the cluster at a given node, 1/6 access disks attached directly to that node.
The remaining 5/6 uniformly access disks attached to the other nodes of the cluster.
All network ports were set to use jumbo frames (MTU=9000) over Gigabit Ethernet.
Each SpinServer 3300 has 1.7 Gbytes of UPS backed cache that will survive a power failure or an operating
system crash. In the event of a power failure or low battery condition, the cache is written to
mirrored local SCSI disks. Recovery software restores the cache when power returns. This RAM is not used
by the operating system as general purpose memory but as NVRAM that is dedicated for caching disk reads
and writes. The UPS is guaranteed to have sufficient energy after a battery low condition to flush the
entire contents of the 1.7 GBytes of cache to a stable storage device.
