SPECviewperf® 2020

The SPECviewperf 2020 V2.0 benchmark was released on June 23, 2021. It is supported under Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit platforms. Included in this new release are updates to the SOLIDWORKS-06 viewset, and viewsets are now individually downloaded and may be independently installed and removed using the new "Manage Viewsets" utility. Results from SPECviewperf 2020 V2.0 are not comparable to those from previous versions.

The SPECviewperf benchmark is a worldwide standard for measuring graphics performance based on professional applications. It measures the 3D graphics performance of systems running under the OpenGL and Direct X application programming interfaces. The benchmark does not require the full application and associated licensing to be installed on the system under test, simplifying set-up, running and results reporting.

SPECviewperf® 13 Linux Edition

The SPECviewperf 13 Linux Edition benchmark, released on March 13, 2019, measures the 3D graphics performance of systems running under the OpenGL application programming interface. The benchmark does not require the full application and associated licensing to be installed on the system under test, simplifying set-up, running and results reporting.

The Linux Edition benchmark is supported under Ubuntu Linux 16.04 or 18.04. Traces for the Linux Edition were obtained from the Windows versions of the applications represented in the viewsets (workloads). While this means the viewsets are not fully representative of native applications running on Linux, they still contain the same model complexity and rendering modes that exercise software and hardware layers in similar ways.

Results from the Linux Edition benchmark are comparable to those from the Windows edition of SPECviewperf 13, but they should not be correlated to Linux application performance, since most of the applications represented by viewsets within SPECviewperf 13 do not run natively on Linux. Results from either editions of the version 13 benchmark are not comparable to those from previous versions.

SPECworkstation 3

The SPECworkstation 3 benchmark (formerly the SPECwpc® benchmark) is performance evaluation software for vendors and users of physical and virtualized workstations that run professional applications. It is designed to run on Windows 10 64-bit RS3 or later. The benchmark includes more than 30 workloads with nearly 140 tests in seven categories: media and entertainment (3D animation, rendering), product development (CAD/CAM/CAE), life sciences (medical, molecular), financial services, energy (oil & gas), general operations, and GPU compute. The benchmark does not require the full application and associated licensing to be installed on the system under test, simplifying set-up, running and results reporting.

On February 25, 2020, the SPECwpc subcommittee released version 3.0.4 of the SPECworkstation benchmark, enabling certain computational workloads to scale beyond 64 logical processors. The update is available in two forms: as a minor-version patch to the benchmark for those already using SPECworkstation 3.0.3, and as a full benchmark installation. If your already installed version of SPECworkstation is lower than 3.0.3, the full benchmark installation package should be used instead of the patch. Whether you download the full V3.0.4 benchmark or just the patch, you will retain comparability between 3.0.4 and all previous 3.0 versions.

To install the patch, extract the contents of the downloaded zip file into an existing SPECworkstation 3.0.3 installation folder, overwriting files when prompted. Users can verify their installation of SPECworkstation has been patched successfully by confirming that the version number shown in the application title bar and the results files matches "3.0.4".

SPECworkstation 3 submissions on the SPEC website results page will include the minor version information in order to disclose up front what version was used to obtain a published result.
