A new generation of SPEC/GPC benchmarks will be on display for the first time at the 3D Benchmarking Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) session during SIGGRAPH '98. The B-BOF will be held on Monday, July 20, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Florida II room of the Peabody Hotel, across the street from the Orange County Convention Center.
SPEC/GPC's Application Performance Characterization (APC) project group is expected to demonstrate as many as a half-dozen new benchmarks based on industry-leading applications for CAD/CAM/CAE, visualization and games. The B-BOF will be the first public look at these benchmarks.
SPEC/GPC's OpenGL Performance Characterization (OPC) project group will demonstrate the latest version of Viewperf, the industry-leading 3D graphics benchmark, and its new viewsets during the B-BOF.
SIGGRAPH Birds-of-a-Feather sessions are open forums to discuss issues that are important to those in the computer graphics community. They also are educational opportunities. At the B-BOF, attendees can find out what benchmarks are available, how they should be used, and their strengths and weaknesses. This year's B-BOF will provide the added dimensions of live demonstrations of the APC and OPC benchmarks, as well as the chance to talk one-on-one with the benchmark developers.
Registered media members at SIGGRAPH '98 are invited to the GPC Press Conference and Luncheon, July 22 from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 313 of the Orange County Convention Center. SPEC/GPC project groups -- the Application Performance Characterization (APC), OpenGL Performance Characterization (OPC) and Multimedia Benchmarking Committee (MBC) -- will give brief overviews of current and upcoming benchmarking efforts. A buffet lunch will be served and the media will have a chance to receive personalized demos of benchmarks and talk one-on-one with the benchmark developers.
Sign up now to get an advance look at the industry's leading graphics benchmarks. If you plan on attending, please RSVP to Cramblitt & Company.
